We are getting ready for Hurricane Ike to hit. This will be the first time for us to go through a hurricane. We skipped town when Rita came through three years ago and in the past we have just gotten the usual rain and wind, not hurricane force rain and winds. I ran to the grocery store to stock up on a couple of items for the next few days and to my surprise a whole bunch of the shelves were completely cleaned out. Not much produce, NO bread and NO water. The fridge decided to quit on us Tuesday evening, but then decided to start working again last night. Sharon got a glass of water from the dispenser on the door and apparently it was pretty nasty. I had some very interesting "floaties" in it. We really needed the water, but we will just have to make what we have last a few days longer!
We were supposed to have Maggie's "curriculum night" at school tonight, but it was cancelled so all the staff could prepare for the next few days. Glenn's office shut down at noon today so they too could get ready. Of course neither will be re-opened until Monday. It's nice having everyone home, but not when it's because we're about to face a huge storm. It looks awfully threatening in the picture below.

Just one more thing to add to my list of things I hate about Texas!
